This adhesive was originally created for cementation of bonded Herbst appliances. The most common use is in the cementation of bonded Rapid Palatal Expanders (RPE). Depending on the buccal coverage of the appliance and your confidence in removal, etch at least the buccal and lingual surfaces of the teeth. The occlusal surface may also be etched for a more secure appliance during the heavy force activation, but some have reported difficulty removing the appliances when this is done. Carefully paint the plastic primer on the inside of the appliance acrylic, or when the appliance is removed, all of the adhesive will be left on the teeth. The bonding resin is painted onto the etched tooth surface while the 2-part paste is mixed and placed into the appliance. Initial set time is 3 minutes; during this time you need to clean up any excess adhesive, especially in the tuberosity region. Removal is usually performed with a snapping motion of a band removing plier. Beware of primary teeth with resorbed roots, as these may be extracted upon removal. Block out any undercuts adjacent to missing teeth to avoid the appliance being locked into place, only to be removed with a high speed handpiece.
