Shorty ligature twists and Kobayashi Hooks are placed with one hand. The handle is pulled back to open the beaks, allowing insertion of the twisted end of the shorty steel ligature or Kobyashi Hook. Release the handle to lock the ligature in place. One-handed steel tie techniques allow the other hand to hold a ligature director or chilling pen for heat activated nickel-titanium archwires.
